GRP Pipeline
Installation Services

Corrosion-resistant, ASTM-compliant GRP pipeline installation for water, industrial, and infrastructure projects across Dubai and UAE.

INTRODUCTION

Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipelines are the preferred choice for fluid conveyance in UAE’s industrial, municipal, and water infrastructure projects. Their exceptional corrosion resistance, light weight, hydraulic efficiency, and long service life make them ideally suited to the aggressive conditions of the Middle East — saline groundwater, extreme heat, and chemically active environments.

ESA Technical Services LLC has been installing GRP pipeline systems across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah since 2006, handling everything from small-diameter service pipes to large-bore transmission mains.

💡  GRP pipeline performance is critically dependent on installation quality. Improper joint assembly, inadequate bedding, or incorrect torquing can compromise a 25-year design life system. ESA’s methodical installation approach ensures structural integrity from day one.

SCOPE OF WORK
  • Pre-installation site survey and pipeline route assessment
  • Trench excavation coordination and bedding material specification
  • Pipe handling, inspection, and pre-lay quality checks
  • Pipeline laying per manufacturer and design specifications
  • Joint assembly — butt-and-strap, bell-and-spigot, or flanged connections
  • Fitting installation: elbows, tees, reducers, valves, and specials
  • GRP joint lamination and overwrapping
  • Thrust block installation at bends and tees
  • Hydrostatic pressure testing per AWWA / project specifications
  • Reinstatement and as-built documentation

INSTALLATION METHODOLOGY
GRP Pipe Installation Procedure
01

Pre-Installation Survey

Route survey, soil classification, groundwater assessment, and existing services identification. Material confirmation against design drawings.

02

Trench Preparation & Bedding

Trench excavation to specified depth, grading of trench bottom, and installation of granular bedding material to minimum 100mm below pipe soffit.

03

Pipe Handling & Inspection

Each pipe section inspected for transport damage. Lifting using padded slings. Temporary end caps maintained until jointing.

04

Pipe Laying & Joint Assembly

Pipes laid to gradient and alignment. Joints assembled per manufacturer ITP — elastomeric seal lubricated, insertion depth marked, deflection limits observed.

05

GRP Joint Lamination

Where required, joints overwrapped with CSM layers and resin per AWWA C950 — glass/resin ratio maintained, pot life managed for UAE ambient temperatures.

06

Hydrostatic Pressure Testing

Pipeline tested to 1.5× working pressure for minimum 2 hours. Pressure monitored, joints inspected for seepage. Test records maintained.

07

Backfilling & Reinstatement

Haunching and initial backfill with approved granular material, compacted in lifts. Final reinstatement to specified surface finish. As-built survey submitted.
