GRP Damper
Installation

Supply and installation of glass fibre reinforced plastic dampers for HVAC ductwork, industrial ventilation, and process air systems — corrosion-resistant, chemically inert, and precision-engineered for reliable flow control in aggressive environments.

INTRODUCTION

Dampers in conventional HVAC and industrial ventilation systems are typically fabricated from galvanised steel or aluminium — materials that are adequate in clean air service but degrade rapidly when exposed to humid, chemically contaminated, or salt-laden airstreams. GRP dampers are the engineered solution for applications where conventional metal dampers fail prematurely through corrosion, jamming, or surface degradation.

ESA Technical Services supplies and installs GRP dampers — including volume control dampers, isolation dampers, multi-blade louvers, and motorised control units — for chemical fume extraction systems, acid mist exhaust ventilation, coastal building HVAC systems, industrial process air networks, and sewage treatment plant ventilation.

INSTALLATION PROCESS
GRP Ductwork Damper Installation Process – ESA Style
01 System Survey Duct size, airstream chemistry, flow velocity, and control requirement established. Damper type, blade configuration, and actuation method specified accordingly.
02 Damper Fabrication / Supply GRP dampers fabricated to duct dimensions with full-perimeter GRP flanged connections. Blade seals in EPDM or PTFE selected for chemical compatibility with airstream.
03 Duct Preparation Duct cut-out prepared with clean, square edges. Flanged connection surfaces cleaned and inspected. Anti-vibration mounts and flexible connections installed where required.
04 Damper Installation Damper unit bolted into flanged duct connection using A4 stainless steel fasteners. Gaskets installed to achieve Class 1 leakage rating per EN 1751. Alignment with duct centreline verified.
05 Actuator & Control Wiring Electric or pneumatic actuator mounted per manufacturer’s instructions. Control wiring installed and connected to BMS or local control panel. Fail-safe position (open / closed) set and verified.
06 Commissioning & Testing Damper operated through full open-to-close stroke. Leakage test performed per EN 1751. Actuator torque and travel limits set. As-fitted record submitted to client.

KEY BENEFITS
GRP Ductwork Damper Key Advantages – ESA Style

Corrosion Immunity

GRP dampers perform without degradation in atmospheres that destroy galvanised steel within months — no surface treatment, re-coating, or mechanical seizure due to corrosion.

Chemical Compatibility

Resin system selected for specific airstream chemistry — vinyl ester grades resist concentrated acids, alkalis, and solvents far beyond the capability of any metal damper.

Low Friction Operation

PTFE-lined GRP bearings and smooth blade surfaces require lower actuator torque than corroded metal alternatives, extending actuator life and reducing control panel load.

No Lubrication Required

GRP bearings and blade pivots are self-lubricating — eliminating periodic maintenance, lubricant contamination of clean airstreams, and access requirements for bearing maintenance.

Electrically Non-Conductive

GRP is non-conductive — eliminating earthing requirements and galvanic corrosion risk at connections to dissimilar metal ductwork.

Custom Fabrication

Dampers fabricated to any rectangular, circular, or custom duct profile — including non-standard flange bolt patterns for retrofit into existing ductwork systems.
