GRP Pipe Lamination
& Leak Rectification

Structural GRP pipe lamination, joint overwrapping, and permanent leakage rectification for GRP pipeline systems across Dubai and UAE.

OVERVIEW

GRP pipe lamination is the process of applying glass fibre reinforcement and resin to GRP pipes to restore, strengthen, or seal the pipe structure. ESA Technical Services performs three distinct services: new pipe lamination, joint lamination, and leakage rectification — all carried out by experienced GRP technicians using marine-grade materials.

Materials & Specifications
GRP Lamination Technical Specifications
// GRP Lamination — Technical Specifications
Reinforcement E-Glass Chopped Strand Mat — 300, 450, 600 g/m²
Resin System Isophthalic Polyester / Vinyl Ester (chemical resistance)
Glass Content 25–35% by weight (hand lay-up)
Layer Thickness 1.5mm – 3.5mm per laminate layer
Tensile Strength 70–140 MPa (per ASTM D638)
Temperature Resistance Up to 90°C heat deflection temperature
Cure Time (UAE) 2–4 hours initial cure at 35°C ambient
Standards ASTM D2996, BS EN ISO 2078
Joint Lamination Process

01

Surface Preparation

Joint area sanded to remove surface ply and expose fresh glass fibres. Wiped with acetone to remove contamination.

02

Alignment & Fit-Up

Pipe sections aligned, supported, and clamped. Gap at joint minimised (≤3mm).

03

Laminate Application

Catalysed resin applied. CSM layers applied in sequence — each fully wetted and air-purged. Minimum 3 CSM layers per side.

04

Curing & Finishing

Laminate allowed to cure fully. Surface sanded and gelcoat applied for UV protection.

05

Quality Inspection

Laminate inspected for dry spots, delamination, and voids. Tap test performed. Pressure test where required.

Leakage Rectification Scope
  • Full leak survey and damage assessment — visual, tap test, pressure mapping
  • Isolation of affected section where possible
  • Surface preparation — grinding, drying, degreasing of repair zone
  • Structural lamination repair — matching original wall build-up
  • Application of chemical-resistant gelcoat or topcoat over repair
  • Pressure test to 1.5× working pressure after cure
  • Full documentation — repair record, photographic evidence, test certificate
